PERILOUS POTHOLES

June 3, 2022

Member for The Entrance, David Mehan, applauds local resident Ms Fay Semple for her initiative to petition Central Coast Council to fix the potholes and provide a more permanent road quality solution in Waratah Street, Bateau Bay.

Ms Semple has obtained over 153 signatures from concerned residents and the Bateau Bay Public School community who are dangerously manoeuvring many potholes in Waratah Street.

The pothole problem is particularly exacerbated during school drop off and pick up times and added into the mix of many cars outside the school is Red Bus route number 48.

Concerns surrounding road safety for parents and school children is of paramount importance as one of the large potholes is located right at the school crossing.

David Mehan said, “I understand that on two occasions, parents have reported seeing motorists ignoring the school crossing when students were using it because they were concentrating on trying to avoid potholes.”

"I support the petitioners and have also written to Council asking that this road is given the attention it deserves and works commence as soon as practicable.”

Fay Semple said, “Motorists are driving in a snake-like fashion to avoid hitting the potholes. When cars are parked on either side of the road, this presents as an accident waiting to happen.”
